Media Announcement - 30 October 2009 For Immediate Release

Next Friday (6th October) sees the opening day of the second Thailand International Cricket Sixes at the Harrow International School Grounds in Bangkok.

Twenty one teams will be chasing honours over three days in the tournament organised by the ICC award winning Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) and Southerners Sports Club of Bangkok.

ACST Chairman Michael (Cat) Maher said Cup holders Etihad of the UAE were one of the favourites as they return to defend their title against teams from Thailand, Kuwait, India, Bangladesh, Singapore, Australia, Indonesia, China, Malaysia and international touring team CBBs.

“The event will also raise money for the development of cricket in Thailand,” Mr Maher said.

Southerners Sports Club President Vaughan McClear said the club was appealing for any unused cricket equipment to be donated to assist their chosen development programme, Petchabun Junior Cricket.

“I am delighted that so many Thai teams have entered the tournament, which shows that the sport is gaining popularity around the country,” Mr McClear said.

“This interest should help cricket expand further to Thai nationals and local expats. Southerners have two teams entered. Bangkok side Crossbar Cowboys, Chiang Mai’s Floggers and Robbers, Pattaya CC, Garden International School Gladiators and Ban Chang Bulls complete the home challenge.

“The appearance of English star players Darren Maddy, Rikki Clarke and Ian Westwood will add to the excitement”.

The sides will compete in a series of preliminary games, in a quest to chase a place on Finals Day on Sunday 8th November, when they will play off in four grades for honours. Play begins at 12.00 next Friday 6th November, and admission is free, with refreshments available at the ground.
