Day One Wrap

The sixth Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) Thailand International Cricket Sixes sponsored by the Chaophya Park Hotel got underway on Friday morning at the Harrow International School ground with the Hong Kong Challengers United stealing the show on the opening day with a victory over four time Cup Winners, the Lanka Lions. Later in the day the Challengers also saw off Patong Pelicans in a dramatic last over win. The Phuket based outfit were also defeated in fine fashion as the Lanka Lions found form to get their campaign back on track with Malinfa and Cheta scoring retirements.

The Kuwaiti club MG7 put in two excellent performances to push their claims for honours at the end of the weekend. Tournament debutants Sanyaof China were put to the sword, which was followed by a fine victory over Mariners CC of Singapore, who thrilled the crowd with some fine catching.

Other outstanding performances came from MG Warriors of Kuwait as Lamma CC of Hong Kong were beaten from the final ball of the match in the days closest encounter. Thai based side Pattaya CC handed Lamma their second defeat of the day as skipper Simon Philbrook led the way.

The returning Shanghai Hot Dogs defeated the Drunker Lions in a tight battle, before the Lions re-grouped and saw off the internationally sprinkled veterans of the CBB’s. The days final encounter was a very one sided affair between two new teams to the event. The Thai based Rayong Indians gave the Beer Battered Seadogs of England a real lesson in the game.

Vaughan McClear of the locally based Southerners club was delighted to see the international tournament return once more. He said, “It’s wonderful to see so many people travel from all over the globe to compete and get on with each other. Cricket is the winner.”

Play will begin at around 9.30am on Saturday and Sunday and will end at dusk at the school, which is located approximately one kilometre west of Don Muang Airport. Admission is free, refreshments are available and all spectators are welcome.
