LMG Pacific Healthcare Thailand international Cricket Sixes 2012 – 19th to 21st Oct

The Thailand International Cricket Sixes kicked off with glorious sunshine and blue skies this year at the Harrow International School. The ground conditions were fantastic with lush outfields and the usual ‘green top’.

A total of 12 teams participated this year with a special mention to 2 new teams – The gentleman from the Thailand Rugby League and Philippines Rugby League.

There was plenty of cricket action on the first 2 days with teams playing four matches each to battle for the best seeding in the knock out rounds.

Tournament favourites, the Lanka Lions along with Fu-Wang Foods from Bangladesh made great starts to their tournament. We got to see a great mixture of new young talent and experience especially from these two teams. With former international captains and capped players giving the tournament some serious weight.

There was a fair bit of entertainment, sportsmanship along with some good cricket for the supporters provided by the likes of the Koh-Chang Cowboys, The Southerners, Parrots and the CBB SC’s and SA’s . There was also a bunch of really “talented” All-Stars too who almost managed to play in every possible match during the course of the 3 days and put in a lot of effort on and off the field with their banter while doing so - special mention must be made of one Leigh Whitten ! Leigh was also awarded the Spirit of Cricket award for the tournament. The award was a fabulous bat donated by Imran Idrees. The ACST would like to thank Imran Idrees and Imran Sports for his continued support.

A very special mention must be made of Boom; she has played for the Thailand national cricket team on the international stage. A very fine cricketer, she played the game with great enthusiasm.

On Friday evening teams had enjoyed a tournament social function at the Crossbar with a fabulous spread for all. A great supporter of the Thailand International Cricket sixes Mr. Brian Walker, makes sure that all the teams have a great time chilling out and catching up and making new mates. Which is one of the main focus’s of the ACST – Friendship through cricket!!

By the end of Day 2 all the knock out matches were taking shape with some great encounters anticipated by all. The teams to stand out after the group stages were the first time Thailand International Cricket Sixes participants – The Honk Kong Blues – bunch of young Indians from Hong Kong who proved to be quite a resilient lot. Amongst the local teams there was the Parrots and Southerners who were looking good, then we had the Sri Lankan crew from Singapore who have been great supporters of the Sixes edition in Thailand – the Lanka Lions and Drunker Lions along with guys from Bangladesh – Fu-Wang Foods.

We got to see some great display of young talent with Angelo from Lanka Lions leading the young brigade, a big shout also to the very talented young lads from M.S. Sports who came all the way from Delhi accompanied by the captain and coach Mohit Soni. We take this opportunity as well to thank Mohit and MS Sports for their support in providing the tournament cricket balls.

Alongside some great cricket over the weekend, a special mention for the first ever Rugby League Match played in Asia, which was played in Bangkok in conjunction with the ACST and the Thailand International Cricket Sixes.

A joint dinner function was held at the Chaophya Park Hotel for the ACST and Rugby League. The function was sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Chaophya Park Hotel. It was a great function with the rugby boys and all the ACST teams getting together for drinks and dinner. The function was enjoyed by everybody present and we have to mention here the staff of Chaophya Park who are very ably lead by Khun Dheerawat Bhunlapiwat.

A much appreciated thanks to the Chaophya Park and TAT for their special contributions and efforts to promote Sports Tourism in Thailand. The ACST are very proud to be partnered and supported by both organisations.

Back on the field, the final day saw some extremely competitive matches – The CBB SA’s , the Southerners, Parrots, CBB SC’s all giving their best and making sure the supporters were treated to some good cricket.

The tournament favourites – The Lanka Lions blazed their way to finals of the main cup where they faced a very good Fu-Wang Foods. The guys from Bangladesh put in strong performances right throughout the tournament and very worthy finalists.

This year we have got on board the LMG Pacific Healthcare, Thailand as our Title sponsors and a very big thank you for their support and contribution to a really good Bangkok sixes this year. A thank you to Mr. Tom Thomson- Owner of LMG Pacific Healthcare as well, for his presence on the final day and helping make the trophy presentations.
