Counting Down to Quality Time at Thailand Sixes 2009
Darren Maddy to star at Tournament
The second Thailand Sixes is coming up fast on 6–8 November and there’s plenty to report.
Demand to enter the Sixes has been very strong from overseas sides which is great news for the tournament
in only its second year! A field of around 20 teams looks likely to compete at the Harrow ground in Bangkok
with teams flying in from all over the world for plenty of Thai ‘quality time’.
Thanks to sponsorship from Etihad Airlines and the Chaophya Park Hotel we are delighted to confirm that
the England international Darren Maddy will join the tournament and give insights into life as a current
top flight cricketer with England and Warwickshire.
We also expect to announce other star players shortly.
Co-organisers, Southerners CC are very active in cricket development in Thailand and request that any
teams coming for the Sixes consider donating some spare cricket equipment so that it can be put to good
use to help develop cricket in Thailand. Any team or individual keen to find out more about this please
contact Michael ‘Cat’ Maher for details.
Not long to go now before the second Thailand Cricket Sixes tournament gets underway. We can’t wait!

The motto of the Thailand Sixes is ‘quality time’ and up to 16 teams from Thailand and
flying in from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and around the region will come together to enjoy the organizers
emphasis on delivering ‘quality time’ both on and off the ground. Good quality cricket, top-class
event organisation and fantastic functions encouraging long-term camaraderie and friendship through cricket
will be the hallmark of the new Thailand Sixes.
The Harrow International School provides an excellent venue for the tournament, offering comfortable
facilities, ample room for spectators and good accessibility.
The tournament hotel is the four-star
Chaophya Park Hotel. Being situated right next to the Ratchadaphisek subway station means it’s
within easy reach of the rest of Bangkok. The hotel boasts 402 very spacious and comfortable rooms, friendly
and efficient staff, and perhaps most importantly, a buffet breakfast that would rival many high-end hotels
and challenge the hungriest cricketer.
The Cricket Sixes Concept
Cricket Sixes is a short form of the sport of cricket where six players make up each
team rather than the traditional eleven. In some ways the idea is similar to Rugby Sevens in that each
Cricket Sixes match is designed to incorporate all the most exciting aspects of the sport: high scores,
fast action and exciting match finishes.
Now recognised worldwide, the Sixes format is a definite “crowd-pleaser” with each match
lasting about 45 minutes.

The Asian Cricket Sixes Tour
Building on the growing appetite for cricket tours of clubs and players around the
world and the general push towards the globalisation of cricket, the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST)
was formed in 2001.
